Tony L. Lifts My Spirits

Yesterday was mildly full of crap. While I did finally get my car back from the shop, I had to pay way too much for a rental thanks to delays on the parts department and thus the shop's part. So, when I opened my mailbox up and found a nice little package from Tony at Off Hiatus, it definitely served to make the day a little better.

I opened the bubble mailer to find two nice bricks of cards and a little note informing me that these would help with my Pacific Legends and 2013 Archives sets. Help is a little bit of an understatement, though, as Tony nearly cleared out my 1988 Pacific Legends series needs, knocking out 45 of the 60 remaining cards. Since Tony is a Milwaukee fan, let's show off this Felipe Alou suited up for the old Braves.

Included among the stack were three of the error cards from the set: misspellings of Don Larsen and Jim Lonborg's names as well as a reversed image of Elston Howard. These three (along with a misspelled Mel "Stottlemyer") all were reissued with corrections at some point.

Next up, Tony checked off the three remaining base cards I needed for 2013 Archives, including the above Manny Machado.

He didn't stop there, however, as he also sent in four of the All-Star inserts (Evans, Winfield, Carter & Cabrera) as well as a small stack of the incredibly hard to come by short prints, including this great faux '79 Don Baylor. Also included were Charlie Hough, Tim Salmon, Keith Miller, Paul Blair, Kent Hrbek, Kevin McReynolds, Frank White, and Leon Durham.

And finally, we come to the card that started off this little trade: a Dual-ing Die Cuts Refractor from 2014 Bowman Chrome featuring Mark Appel and the other pitcher he is sure to get compared to for at least the next several years, Jonathan Gray. That is, until the Rockies make Gray's arm fall off and Appel surges to dominance. Hey, a guy can dream, right?

Thanks so much for the trade package and for making my day a little better Tony!

  1. Glad I could brighten up your day, Bru! The best part of sending out trade packages to me is seeing posts about the packages--and that the package at least put a smile on your face for a while.
